Course Description/Overview
The class that will be given on December 7, 2017, will be entitled "Negotiator Response to Active Shooter Situations", and will be largely based off of the Platte Canyon High School hostage crisis, Bailey, Colorado, and the things learned during the course of that horrific tragedy. This will directly correlate to the presentation that was completed during the LACN conference this year. The training will consist of approximately a three hour block of PowerPoint presentation/lecture, to be completed by members of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office SWAT team, along with "real-life" scenario-based training to incorporate all training points provided during the course of this presentation. The presentation will consist of several topics to include, but not limited to, the following: . The dynamics between SWAT Operator vs Negotiator, . The roles of a SWAT Operator and Negotiator during an active shooter situation, . Improving communication between the SWAT element and Negotiations, . Understanding and managing the expectations and responsibilities of both the SWAT element and Negotiations, . several other related topics The training will occur from 8am - 4pm, on December 7, 2017, at the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office Rifle Range, which is located at 2100 Savanne Rd., Houma, LA. The tentative schedule for the class is as follows: . 8 AM - check in . 8:30 am - 11:30 am - PowerPoint presentation and lecture . 11:30 am - 12:30 pm - lunch (not provided) . 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm - scenario based training
